Nyala Yvonne (b. 1997) is a Black American artist and educator from the outskirts of Tallahassee, Florida, now based in Atlanta, Georgia. She holds a BA in Studio Art from Florida State University and is best known for her mixed media collage work and photography. Her practice merges traditional and contemporary techniques, using the tactile manipulation of found materials and the interplay of images to explore themes of memory, identity, and societal constructs through an Afro-surrealist lens.

Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of Florida, Nyala’s work is deeply influenced by the healing, chaotic, and symbolic qualities of nature. She envisions Black identity as its own physical world, one that coexists with absurdity and chaos yet remains resilient and deeply rooted. Through bold compositions rich in symbolism and poetic metaphor, she challenges conventional perceptions of reality while celebrating the complexity of the Black experience. Her art invites viewers to engage with layered narratives that exist between personal and collective history.
